Benee – dalok az idén világsikert arató új-zélandi énekesnőtől

Az iskolai évei alatt gitározni és szaxofonozni is tanuló, SoundCloudon feldolgozásokat megosztó aucklandi lány 2017-ben döntött a popkarrier mellett és készítette el Tough Guy című első kislemezdalát Josh Fountainnel, aki saját Leisure nevű saját pszichedelikus diszkó-funk zenekarához közel álló indie pop hangzásba csomagolta közös szerzeményeiket.

Benee a 2018-as Soaked slágerével és a köré épített hatszámos Fire On Marzz EP-jével rögtön négy díjat nyert a 2019-es New Zealand Music Awards-gálán (legjobb szólóelőadó, legjobb pop előadó, az év áttörése, az év kislemeze), és még szintén tavaly állt elő a szintén Fountainnel készített Stella & Steve című második EP-jével is, melyről a Supalonely lett a világhódító dal. Már abban is szerepelt egy amerikai vendég a hálószobapop-dalnok Gus Dapperton személyében, de a most bemutatott Night Garden című új szám már egy igazi nagy név, a fehér hiphopproducer Kenny Beats (Kenneth Charles Blume III, 1991) Los Angeles-i stúdiójában készült, a nemzetköziséget pedig némi dub-reggae hangulat és a londoni rapper-énekes Bakar (Abubakar Baker Shariff-Farr, 1992) bevonása is fokozza.
