Big Red Machine feat. Fleet Foxes & Anaïs Mitchell: Phoenix – a National- és Bon Iver-tagok projektjétől
A seattle-i Fleet Foxes indie folk-rock együttes (melynek 2008-2012 közt Father John Misty is tagja volt) fél évtized kihagyás után 2017-ben tért vissza Crack-Up című harmadik albumával, melyet 2020 őszén követett a Shore nagylemez és annak egyórás kísérőfilmje, de a dalszerző-gitáros-énekes Robin Pecknoldtól máris hallhatunk egy kollaborációt: a Bon Iver-főnök Justin Vernonnak és a National multiinstrumentalista-zeneszerző-producertagjának, Aaron Dessnernek a közös Big Red Machine projektjével és Anaïs Mitchell énekesnővel.
Vernon és Dessner a 2008-ban közösen írt és rögzített Big Red Machine dalukból kinövő, majd debütalbumát 2018-ban kiadó Big Red Machine-nek a második eljöveteléhez igazi sztárvendégsereget toborzott: az ex-R.E.M.-énekes Michael Stipe-pal felvett tavalyi No Time For Love Like Now kollaborációjuk ugyan végül nem kerül fel a 2021. augusztus 27-án megjelenő How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last? című második BRM-nagylemezre, de azon még így is szerepel Sharon Van Etten, Taylor Swift, Ilsey Juber, a My Brightest Diamond-frontlány Shara Nova, a kanadai Broken Social Scene-énekesnő Ariel Engle (azaz La Force) meg a National/Big Red Machine-vendégvokalistaként már gyakorlott ír Lisa Hannigan és brit Kate Stables (This Is The Kit) is, férfi oldalról pedig az angol gitáros-énekes Ben Howard és az amerikai elektro-rapper Naeem Juwan (Spank Rock).
A fenti illusztris nevek közé jól illik a Fleet Foxes-frontember Robin Pecknold és az ezredforduló óta aktív dalszerző-gitáros-billentyűs-énekesnő Anaïs Mitchell (aki az utóbbi években az egyik saját albumából adaptált többszörös Emmy- és Grammy-djías Hadestown című Broadway-musicaljével és a Bonny Light Horseman nevű folk szupergruppjával is növelte ismertségét). Az új Big Red Machine-lemezről június-július fordulóján közzétett három beharangozó szám (The Ghost Of Cincinnati, Latter Days, Renegade) mellé most a hónap végére megkaptuk az ő közreműködésükkel írt és felvett Phoenix című dalt is, mely a Bob Dylan-féle The Band fél évszázaddal ezelőtti hangzását megidézve akár Fleet Foxes-szám is lehetne – főleg, hogy a pazar fúvóskíséretet és -hangszerelést a Robin Pecknoldékkal már korábban is sokszor együtt zenélő szintén seattle-i gyökerű kvartett, a Westerlies szolgáltatja.
