Big Red Machine – dalok a National/Bon Iver-projekt új albumáról, Taylor Swift szereplésével
A National multiinstrumentalista-zeneszerző-producertagja, Aaron Dessner és a Bon Iver-vezér Justin Vernon 2008-ban készítettek együtt egy Big Red Machine című dalt, 2018-ban pedig szintén Big Red Machine név/cím alatt egy közös projektalbumot is. 2020-ban előbb az R.E.M.-énekes Michael Stipe bevonásával jelentettek meg egy No Time For Love Like Now című kollaborációt, majd közreműködtek Taylor Swift két meglepetésalbumán is (Folklore, Evermore), így most nem meglepetés, hogy az amerikai popdíva is feltűnik az augusztus 27-re How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last? címmel bejelentett második Big Red Machine-nagylemezen.

A Big Red Machine első 2021-es produkciója egy feldolgozás volt Sharon Van Etten egy régi dalából, így az sem meglepetés, hogy őt is megtaláljuk az új album vendéglistáján a visszatérő kollaborátornak számító ír Lisa Hannigan és brit Kate Stables (This Is The Kit) mellett, olyan további új nevek közt, mint a Fleet Foxes-frontember Robin Pecknold, az angol gitáros-énekes Ben Howard, a rapper Naeem Juwan (Spank Rock), a My Brightest Diamond-frontlány Shara Nova, a kanadai Broken Social Scene-énekesnő Ariel Engle (azaz La Force), Ilsey Juber vagy a Bonny Light Horseman folk szupergruppból is ismert Anaïs Mitchell. Az utóbbival felvett Latter Days című szám volt három napja az albumbejelentéshez közzétett első kislemezdal, majd másnap Dessner egy The Ghost Of Cincinnati című szólószerzeményt is mutatott, ma pedig megkaptuk a Taylor Swifttel kettesben írt Renegade-et is, melyben a Bon Iver-főnök Justin Vernon is gitározik és énekel.

I tapped on the window on your darkest night
The shape of you
Was jagged and weak
There was nowhere for me to stay
But I stayed anyway
And if I would’ve known
How many pieces you had crumbled into
I might have let them lay
Are you really gonna talk about timing
In times like these
And let all your damage
Damage me
Carry your baggage up my street
And make me your future history
It’s time, you’ve come a long way
Open the blinds
Let me see your face
You wouldn’t be the first renegade
To need somebody
Is it insensitive for me to say
Get your shit together
So I can love you
Is it really your anxiety
That stops you from giving me everything
Or do you just not want to?
I tapped on the window on your darkest night
The shape of you
Was jagged and weak
There was nowhere for me to stay
But I stayed anyway
You fire off missiles cause
You hate yourself
But do you know you’re demolishing me?
Then you squeeze my hand
As I’m about to leave
Are you really gonna talk about timing
In times like these
And let all your damage
Damage me
Carry your baggage up my street
And make me your future history
It’s time, you’ve come a long way
Open the blinds
Let me see your face
You wouldn’t be the first renegade
To need somebody
Is it insensitive for me to say
Get your shit together
So I can love you
Is it really your anxiety
That stops you from giving me everything
Or do you just not want to?
And if I would’ve known
How sharp the pieces were
You’d crumbled into
I might’ve let them lay
Are you really gonna talk about timing
In times like these
And let all your damage
Damage me
Carry your baggage up my street
And make me your future history
It’s time, you’ve come a long way
Open the blinds
Let me see your face
You wouldn’t be the first renegade
To need somebody
Is it insensitive for me to say
Get your shit together
So I can love you
Is it really your anxiety
That stops you from giving me everything
Or do you just not want to?
The Bell tolls noon on 12th and Vine
And I still need this overtime
Cus I’m Over myself
I’m Over the hill
I’m Over-The-Rhine
(For the millionth time)
I park at this spot and stare at the water
Try to remember I’m somebody’s father
Dawn commute across Covington Bridge
Get lost in my head, just looking at it
Now I’m looking at you
Through the hole in my sheet
And I still need this overtime
Cus I’m Over myself
I’m Over the hill
I’m Over-The-Rhine
(For the millionth time)
I’m Overspent
Overworked
Overlooked
I’m Over-The-Rhine
(For the millionth time)
Cut though Ault Park cause it’s safe now
I stalk the streets in my nightgown
The Ghost of Cincinnati slinks past
I smell your coffee can you taste that
My lip on your cup won’t even feel real
I’m rushing there all the way there
Cus I’m Over myself
Over the hill
I’m Over-The-Rhine
(For the millionth time)
I’m Overspent
Overworked
Overlooked
I’m Over-The-Rhine
(For the millionth time)
I feel Over my head
Over the hill
I’m Over myself
I’m Over-The-Rhine
(For the millionth time)
Stalk the spring grove
Rot in my old clothes
Pardon Pete Rose
And wonder why the evil grows
Now I’m in the big time?
Not a suicide
I’d stalk the streets
And haunt you from the northside
I pace the hedge row
Dodge the low blows
Play the Fountain Square
And wonder where my cousins go
I haunt the northside
Stop the traffic lights
Cycle up Price Hill
And stare up at the Pepsi sign
I’m Overextended
I’m Over it all
I’m Over-The-Rhine
(For the millionth time)
How long? Is what you asked
How long do you think it’s gonna last?
You at the corner store
You were stocking up before the storm
Stacked yourself against the odds
Talkin back to an act of god
You and your clever mouth
You were laughing when the lights went out
I recall it all forever
How it found us where we lay
With our arms around each other
In the latter days, in the latter days
How high? Is what you said
How high do you think it’s gonna get?
You at the water’s edge
On the jetty when you were a kid
Passed around a plastic cup
Passed out spinning in the house where you grew up
You in your childhood bed
And the wildest dream you ever had
You recall it all forever
How it found you where you lay
And you called out for your brother
In the latter days
I recall it all forever
How it found us where we lay
With our arms around each other
In the latter days
How high do you? / how high do you?
I recall it all forever
How we sheltered in our place
And we called each other lovers
In the latter days
I recall it all forever
How there was no hiding place
So we called each other brothers
In the latter days, in the latter days
