Esperanza Spalding: Triangle – háromtételes szvit egy 17 perces kisfilmmel
Az 1984-es születésű Esperanza Spalding amerikai dzsessz-soul nagybőgős-dalszerző-énekesnő a David Bowie-producer Tony Viscontival felvett – és budapesti koncerten is bemutatott – funk/art-rockos Emily’s D+Evolution konceptlemeze után 2017-ben a 77 óra alatt elkészített és 7777 fizikai példányban kiadott Exposure albummal jelentkezett, a 2018-as 12 Little Spells nagylemezzel pedig pedig elnyerte a negyedik Grammy-díját is. Az elmúlt két évben a veterán szaxofonos-zeneszerző Wayne Shorterrel közösen írt Iphigenia operáján dolgozott, most 2021 áprilisában pedig egy háromtételes szvitet tett közzé egy kisfilmmel.
Esperanza már legutóbbi 12 Little Spells albumával is a zene és az emberi test kölcsönhatását, a hangzások és a szavak gyógyító erejét tárgyalta, és a zenék terápiás célú használatára koncentrál a Harvard egyetem professzoraként indított Sonic Healing Lab kutatóprogramja és Songwrights Apothecary Lab nevű legfrissebb projektje is, melynek honlapját a most közzétett új háromszámos EP-jének és kisfilmjének hivatalos címében is hirdeti (AVAILABLE AT SONGWRIGHTSAPOTHECARYLAB.COM).
A művésznő elmondása szerint a zeneterápia, az idegtudomány, az afro-amerikai zenék, a szufizmus és a dél-indiai karnatikus zene szakértőivel, valamint a Harvard munkatársaival és hallgatóival való konzultáció nyomán született Triangle szvit célja, hogy „enyhítse a feszültséget, a szomorúságot és az elszigeteltséget, amit a globális világjárvány idején otthoni tartózkodásra kényszerülve tapasztalunk.” A szülőföldjére, Oregon államba visszatérve komponált Formwela 1, Formwela 2 és Formwela 3 című dalokból összeálló szvit középső darabjában Esperanza egyik Sonic Healing Lab-kutatótársa, a fenti csoportkép jobb szélén látható indiai tamil származású New York-i multiinstrumentalista-énekesnő Ganavya Doraiswamy a vendéghang, a zárótételben Wayne Shorter szaxonfonjátéka is hallható, a felvételek két társproducere pedig Raphael Saadiq és a chicagói billentyűs-énekes Phoelix (Michael E. Neil) volt.
