Hayley Williams: Dead Horse – videoklip a teljes Petals For Armor album megjelenéséhez

Hayley 14 éves kora énekelt az emo/pop-punk Paramore élén, de a színes new wave-es irányba mozduló legutóbbi 2017-es After Laughter album koncertkörútja idején már óriási válságban volt: egy évtizednyi kapcsolat után éppen vált férjétől (a New Found Glory-szólógitáros Chad Gilberttől), negyvenegynéhány kilóra fogyott, kimaradt a menstruációs ciklusa, szorongás és depresszió gyötörte. A turné befejezése után a terápiás folyamat és a gyógyulás közben születő dalaiból egy sötét témái ellenére is egy szuper poplemez állt össze – az első szólóalbuma.

Az énekesnő a számok több mint felét a Paramore turnébasszistájával, Joey Howarddal írta, míg a zenekar gitárosa, Taylor York a lemez fő producere és féltucat dal társszerzője lett – az album most bemutatott utolsó blokkjában pedig már az együttes másik alaptagja, a dobos Zac Farro is szerepet kapott: a nyolcvanas évek hangzásaiban mozgó szexi számsor (Pure Love, Taken, Sugar On The Rim) után a gyógyulást és önbizalmat sugárzó Watch Me While I Bloom és Crystal Clear című záródalokban már ő is játszik, és ő rendezte Dead Horse klipjét is.

A videóban Hayley Williams szembenéz tükörképeivel, a különféle hajszíneivel és a zenekar hőskorában hordott bakancsával is leszámol, és végre megbékél egy évtizeddel korábbi önmagával. „A Dead Horse erőt sugároz vissza saját magam fiatalabb, gyengébb verziójának. Úgy érzem, mindezt ki kellett mondanom ahhoz, hogy megtestesíthessem az a nőt, aki reményeim szerint leszek. . . Ettől a daltól olyan érzésem lett, mintha kihúztam volna egy nagyon mélyen lévő szálkát.”
