Lawrence Rothman – dalok az új dupla albumról, klip a Lucinda Williams-duetthez
A Living Things amerikai rockzenekar frontemberéből egy pazar klipdalsorozattal és The Book Of Law albumával popkaméleon-szólóelőadóvá lett Lawrence Rothman a feleségének, Floria Sigismondi rendezőnőnek a legutóbbi The Turning mozifilmjéhez az idei év eddigi legerősebb filmzenelemezét készítette el Courtney Love, Finn Wolfhard, Soccer Mommy, Empress Of, Mitski, Kim Gordon, Alison Mosshart, Alice Glass, Kali Uchis, a Pale Waves, a Warpaint és a Sunflower Bean közreműködésével – és most még egy dupla albumot is bejelentett újabb kollaborációkkal.
A magát nembinárisként definiáló, Lillian Berlin művésznéven feltűnt 1982-es születésű multiinstrumentalista-producer-énekes idén nyolc év szünet után újraindította a fivéreivel – a basszista Yves-vel és a dobos Bosh-sal – 2001-ben alapított Living Things együttesét (ígérete szerint a Steve Albini producerrel felvett májusi Shapeshifter egy EP-sorozat első darabja, melyet 2021-ben egy nagylemez is követ majd a 2011-es Har Megiddo botrányklippel azonos címen), de nyáron egy új szólóalbumot is megírt: a kilenc dalból összeállt Good Morning, America 2021. január 29-én jelenik meg egy másik lemezzel, a kilenc spoken word felvételt tartalmazó Not A Sonnal közös kiadványként (az 18 számos anyag első felében Yves Rothman és a sztárproducer Justin Raisen voltak fő segédei, a második felét Thundercat kísérőzenészeivel rögzítette).
Rothman már korábbi szólódalaihoz is olyan híres vendégeket hívott, mint a Sonic Youth-dáma Kim Gordon, Angel Olsen, SoKo, Charli XCX, Active Child, How To Dress Well, a Yeah Yeah Yeahs-gitáros Nick Zinner, a Nine Inch Nails/Beck-basszista Justin Meldal-Johnsen, a Guns N’ Roses-basszusgitáros Duff McKagan, az ex-Dum Dum Girls-frontcsaj Kristin Kontrol és Marissa Nadler – és ez utóbbi szerepel az új albumon is, olyan további közreműködők mellett, mint a hárfás Mary Lattimore, a sztárbasszista Pino Palladino (The Who, John Mayer Trio, D’Angelo stb.), a Girlpool duó vagy a most érkezett Decent Man című beharangozó duettben hallható 67 éves country-folk-rock gitáros-énekesnő Lucinda Williams.
A Föld Napja tiszteletére Marissa Nadlerrel és Mary Lattimore-ral felvett It’s Hard To Be Human kollaboráció után fél évvel, a lemezbejelentéshez és az elnökválasztási hajrához igazítva közzétett Decent Man címsorát Rothman és Sigismondi 15 éves lányának egy kérdése ihlette George Floyd megölése idején („maradtak még tisztességes emberek?”). A Donald Trump-adminisztráció jobboldali politikusai által lepusztított, fejlődésben visszavetett Amerikai Egyesült Államokról írt protest songot komponálásakor Rothman már eleve Lucinda Williams hangjával duettben képzelte el, a klipet pedig a borítótervező-vizuálművész Eric Redmond rendezte hozzá az amerikai elnökök leselejtezett óriásszobrainak lerakatában.
