Liz Phair: Spanish Doors – Alanis Morissette turnétársnőjének 11 év után érkező albumáról
A kanadai popsztár Alanis Morissette a 2020-ról 2021-re áttett (a Budapest Sportarénát a tervek szerint november 3-án érintő) koncertkörútjának felvezetéseként tegnap mutatta be I Miss The Band című új klipdalát, de a világturné előzenekari posztján fellépő kolléganője, a legnagyobb előképének tekinthető amerikai indie rock gitáros-énekesnő Liz Phair is közzétett a héten egy friss számot, mellyel 11 év után egy új stúdióalbumot is bejelentett. Az elmúlt másfél évben érkezett felvezető kislemezdalok, a Good Side és a Hey Lou (meg a címadó Soberish élő ősbemutatója) után itt a visszatérő album nyitódala is a ma épp születésnapos művésznőtől.
Az 1967. április 17-én született Liz Phair a kilencvenes évek legfontosabb női szólóelőadói közé számított a fiatalkori szexuális, érzelmi és társadalmi tapasztalatait szellemes és gúnyos módon megéneklő 1991-es Girly Sound-demókazettáival és az azok dalai köré épült független kiadású nagylemezekkel (Exile In Guyville – 1993, Whip-Smart – 1994, Whitechocolatespaceegg – 1998), de nagy meglepetést keltett a szubverzív 2003-as Liz Phair albummal is, melyet a tinisztár Avril Lavigne slágerszerző-producereivel készített a Capitol kiadónál. A legutóbbi két sorlemeze (Somebody’s Miracle – 2005, Funstyle – 2010) már nem igazán aratott sikert, de a korai albumainak produceréhez, Brad Woodhoz és szólógitáros-hangmérnökéhez, Casey Rice-hoz visszatérve felvett – és sok csúszás után végül 2021. június 4-re bejelentett Soberish anyaga a felvezető dalok alapján elég izgalmasnak ígérkezik, és az Alanis Morissette-világturnéval megtámogatva ismét nagy közönséget érhet el.
Az új lemez nyitódala, az albumbejelentéshez közzétett Spanish Door a művésznő elmondása szerint arról szól, „hogyan törik szét egy szép élet. . . Egy válófélben lévő barátom története adta hozzá az ihletet, de a dalszövegben szereplő cselekedetek a sajátjaim. Át tudom érezni, milyen a fürdőszobába rejtőzni, mikor körülötted mindenki jól érzi magát, a te életed meg épp széthullik. Nézed magad a tükörben, és nem tudod ki vagy, a gyanakvás árnyéka vetül a szemedbe. Néhány pillanattal ezelőtt még ép egész, magabiztos ember voltál, és most azon tűnődsz, hogyan nyerhetnéd valaha is vissza a régi varázslatot.”
