Matt Berninger: Distant Axis – újabb klipdal a National énekesének szólóalbuma elé
A National tagjait az elmúlt hetekben több felvételen is hallhattuk: a fő zeneszerző Aaron Dessnert az ex-R.E.M.-énekes Michael Stipe-pal és a Bon Iver-főnök Justin Vernonnal közös No Time For Love Like Now című Big Red Machine-kollaborációban, a gitáros Bryce Dessnert az ausztrál énekesnő Julia Stone e heti Break kislemezdalában – és most a frontember Matt Berninger is bemutat egy újabb számot október 2-án érkező Serpentine Prison szólóalbumáról, melyről már a címadó dalt és a Walking On A String című Phoebe Bridgers-duettet is megkaptuk.
A 49 éves énekest az első szólólemezén a veterán Booker T. & The M.G.’s-orgonista Booker T. Jones producer és a National-basszista Scott Devendorf mellett olyan további zenészbarátok is segítik, mint Gail Ann Dorsey, Andrew Bird meg a Walkmen együttes ritmusszekciója, Matt Barrick dobos és Walter Martin basszusgitáros – és ez utóbbi volt a társszerzője a most közzétett Distant Axis klipdalnak is.
„Tizenöt éve ismerkedtem meg Walter Martinnal, mikor a National előzenekaroskodott a Walkmen egyik turnéján az USA délkeleti államainak szaros kis klubjaiban. . . Azóta is barátok maradtunk, és kábé három éve kezdtünk zenei ötleteket küldözgetni egymásnak. A Distant Axis egy Savannah című dalvázlatból indult ki, amit Walttól kaptam. Azt hiszem, arról szól, hogy milyen elveszteni a kapcsolatot valakivel vagy valamivel – akiről vagy amiről, azt hittük, hogy örökké része lesz az életünknek” – mondja Matt Berninger a dalról, melyhez a klipet is saját maga forgatta (az eddigi szólóvideót jegyző Chris Sgroi és saját öccse, a National 2013-as Mistaken For Strangers koncertfilmjét és az EL VY projekt 2015-2016-os klipsorozatát rendező Tom Berninger társaságában).
