Sparks: The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte – az új album címadó dalának klipje Cate Blanchett-tel
A több mint ötven éve aktív Sparks amerikai art-pop együttes testvértagjai, a billentyűs Ron Mael és az énekes öcs Russell Mael a 2017-es Hippopotamus és 2020-as A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip albumaik után 2021-ben az általuk írt Annette című Leos Carax–musical filmzenéjét adták ki, melyen a szereplők – köztük Adam Driver, Marion Cotillard és Angèle is – énekelnek mellettük. Most 2023-ban egy saját új nagylemezzel is visszatérnek: a május 26-ra ígért The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte album címadó nyitódalának videóját a többszörös Oscar-díjas ausztrál színésznővel, Cate Blanchett-tel forgatták (akit néhány éve aMassive Attack és a Mazzy Star-énekesnő Hope Sandoval közös The Spoils klipjében is láthattunk).
A Sparks-tagok és a filmdíva a francia César-díjak tavalyi párizsi gáláján találkoztak, ahol a Mael fivérek a legjobb filmzene kategóriában nyertek az Annette-ért, Cate Blanchett pedig életműdíjat kapott.

Az új The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte album a Sparks hetvenes évek közepi lemezcégénél, a nagy Island kiadónál jelenik meg, és a fivérek szerint „ugyanolyan merész és megalkuvásmentes, mint bármi, amit akkoriban csináltunk, vagy ami azt illeti, a karrierünk során bármikor.” A repetitív elektropopos címadó dal Cate Blanchett tánckoreográfiájára épülő klipjét Ron és Russell együtt rendezték Richie Starzec amerikai rövidfilmessel, aki asszisztensként segédkezett a brit sztárrendező Edgar Wright legutóbbi filmjeinél – így a Nyomd, bébi, nyomd! és az Utolsó éjszaka Sohóban közt készült The Sparks Brothers dokumentumfilmél is.
