A kanadai R&B-pop énekes The Weeknd a 2020-as After Hours sikerlemeze óta már egy sor Oneohtrix Point Never-, Caroline Polachek-, Ariana Grande-, Doja Cat-, Sabrina Claudio-, Calvin Harris-, Post Malone-, Swedish House Mafia-, Aaliyah-, Rosalía- és FKA twigs-kollaborációval jelentkezett, sőt 2021 végén múltjába visszatekintve a 2016-os, 2015-ös és 2011-es albumaihoz is közzétett utólag egy-egy klipet (Die For You, Can’t Feel My Face, Echoes Of Silence), de közben Take My Breath című nyári szólódalával és annak videójával már elkezdte beharangozni következő sorlemezét is – és 2022 első hetében közre is adja azt.
A 31 éves The Weeknd (polgári nevén: Abel Tesfaye) Újév napján osztotta meg az XO Records kiadó kreatív direktorával, La Mar Taylorral való üzenetváltásának egy részletét, melyben felveti, hogy a szokásos hosszú felvezetés helyett az egész új anyagot rögtön jelentessék meg, tegnap pedig korai kelést javasolt rajongóinak január 3-ának hajnalára – ami a lakhelyén, Amerika nyugati partján most jött el, és egy albumbejelentő kisfilmet hozott.

A pszichedelikus beütésű bulilemezként és purgatóriumi várakozás közben szóló rádióadásként jellemzett új konceptalbum az After Hours éjszakai világának hajnali folytatásaként Dawn FM címmel jelenik meg január 7-én, a többszöri halasztás után lemondott After Hours arénaturné pótlása is After Hours Til Dawn cím alatt indul el 2022 nyarán stadionturnévá bővítve.
Az ötödik The Weeknd-sorlemezen Max Martin és Oscar Holter svéd producerpárosa mellett ismét besegít a Oneohtrix Point Never név alatt dolgozó brooklyni elektronikus experimentalista Daniel Lopatin, de Quincy Jones, Lil Wayne és Tyler, The Creator mellett narrátorként még Jim Carrey is szerepel rajta hangjával – ahogy a most közzétett kisfilmben is.
