Todd Rundgren & Rivers Cuomo: Down With The Ship – duett a Weezer vezérével

A Space Force címmel 2021 elejére várható huszonhatodik Rundgren-stúdióalbum számai többek közt a Sparks duóval, a Roots hiphopegyüttessel, az angol new wave szintis-énekes Thomas Dolbyval és az új-zélandi Neil Finn-nel, a Crowded House (és a Fleetwood Mac) gitáros-énekesével készültek, az első beharagozó kislemezdalban az iraki származású kanadai rapper Narcy (született: Yassin Alsalman, 1982) volt a közreműködő, a most bemutatott második számban pedig a Weezer-vezér Rivers Cuomo a sztárvendég.

A Down With The Ship szövegében a címbeli süllyedő hajó az 1630-as években az Indiai-óceánon portyázó Davy Jones kalózé, de a dal valójában arról szól, hogy a Donald Trump-adminisztráció Amerikája merül el. Mindez nem meglepő, ha ismerjük Rundgren politikai álláspontját (és előző albumáról a Trumpon és környezetén élcelődő Tin Foil Hat című számot), de az már inkább meglepetés, hogy a Down With The Ship zeneileg egy vidám ska dal formáját kapta.
